Web + Wins #9 Beyond the Contact Form
This Week's Update
I'm writing this from bed. The night before it goes out. 😅
I’m proud of the newsletter content planning I did these first two months — showing up consistently, not letting it become another thing I put off. And then week one of full-time business ownership humbled me quickly. Client deadlines, a big group workshop mid-week, and actually taking a weekend off for the first time in a while.
But one thing I know for sure: consistency beats perfection every time. A rushed newsletter written in bed still counts. Showing up imperfectly is still showing up. So here's to getting it done even when you don't feel ready.
Get a Web Win: What Happens After Someone Fills Out Your Form?
I had a great conversation with an agency owner last week about conversions, and I figured it would be helpful to share.
I like to think of a website as a custom home. All the roads and signage that get someone there are your marketing channels. But once someone finds their way to your door, what actually happens when they arrive?
Most business owners put all their energy into getting found — and not enough into what comes next. Here's what I'd look at:
If you have a contact form: Does an automated email go out immediately confirming you received it? Does it tell them what to expect next and when?
If you have a phone number listed: Are you answering? If not, is your voicemail professional and up to date? Do you have someone trained to handle those calls?
If you use a booking link: Is it easy to find? Does the confirmation email set clear expectations?
Your potential client's experience doesn't start at the contact form, and it doesn't end there either. The moment someone reaches out, they're evaluating whether you're someone they can trust. A slow response, a generic voicemail, or radio silence after a form submission can quietly cost you the job.
Spend 20 minutes this week mapping out your intake flow from the moment someone hits your contact page. Sometimes one small automated email is all it takes to keep a warm lead warm.
Convo Corner: Natasha Walstra
For the past couple of months, I've been part of Natasha Walstra's REALationship Growth Method LinkedIn cohort, and it's been one of the better investments of my time lately.
The whole premise is a little counterintuitive: it's a LinkedIn cohort with the goal of getting you off LinkedIn. The point isn't follower counts or viral posts — it's using the platform to build real relationships and establish yourself as a trusted voice so that those connections move into the real world. We've covered personal branding, content strategy, and social selling, and it's really shifted how I think about showing up online.
If you're not following Natasha yet, you should!
Let's Talk
Funny thing — my first full week without a day job was somehow still packed. But I'm committed to protecting time for coffee chats and real conversations.
I've been thinking about an idea: small group meetups, virtual or in-person, 3–4 people at a time. Why have one great conversation when you could spark a few new connections in the same hour? If that sounds like something you'd be into, hit reply and let me know. I'll start pulling something together.
