This Week's Update

​July already. Less than 6 more months of 2026. 😬

This week I want to share something that came up at Taco Monday (yes, Publico in Five Points does Taco Mondays, not Taco Tuesdays) with some friends from the Boyd Innovation Center. We got into a conversation about risk-taking, and one thing stood out: the more risks you take and actually survive, the less terrifying the next one feels. That first jump is always the hardest You can make every pro/con list in existence and still talk yourself out of it. At some point you just have to act.

I posted about this on LinkedIn yesterday, sharing one of my favorite pieces of advice I recently got from a client: "do it scared." It's stuck with me because it's so true for business owners. You rarely know if it's the right path, you just make a decision and move forward anyway.​

Which brings me to my own next "do it scared" moment: getting a little more personal about my why behind this business. Some of you know I'm expecting my first baby later this summer. Some of you have no idea. I've gone back and forth on sharing this more personal side of the journey, but it's such a big part of what's driving me right now that it feels wrong to leave it out. Next week I'm going to share more about what this chapter looks like and how I'm thinking about balancing it all. Stay tuned. 🤍

 
 

Get a Web Win: The Soulshine Website Glow-Up

This week I want to do something a little different and walk you through a recent launch I'm really proud of.

Meet Meghan Davidson, owner and lead PT at Soulshine Physical Therapy. I actually found Meghan as a client of hers — a friend recommended her, and from the moment I walked in for my consult, I was struck by how warm, knowledgeable, and approachable she was about what can be a pretty intimate and unfamiliar topic. (Did you know pelvic floor health affects your whole body and that both men and women can benefit from PT? Because I did not.)

Meghan's business was thriving. Great SEO (shoutout HelloSEO), strong referral network, solid online visibility. But her website didn’t tell that story — it was pretty generic and didn't reflect her current branding. There was limited educational content and FAQs to help new patients understand what to expect and address the hesitations people naturally have. The online experience didn't match what you got in the actual appointment.

Here's what we changed:

  • Implemented her full brand identity with warm, inviting colors that actually reflect the experience of working with her

  • Built out a flow that spoke directly to potential client pain points and helped educate visitors to understand pelvic floor therapy before they ever reach out

  • Added new FAQs that address the real questions and hesitations new patients have

  • Showcased her social proof and credentials throughout

  • Preserved and built on the SEO equity she'd already earned

The result was a website that finally matches the quality of her care — fully built out, functional, and welcoming from the first click.

Convo Corner: Karl McCollester, GovPossible

Karl McCollester is one of my Taco Monday crew and a friend from my time at the Boyd Innovation Center — and he's exactly the kind of person you hope to meet when you join a new community. Serial entrepreneur, connector, and someone who always seems to have a book recommendation, a mindset shift, or a new introduction ready to go. He's the one who put The Mom Test and The SaaS Playbook on my radar.

Karl is the founder of GovPossible, which works to help local governments operate more effectively and serve their communities better. This year he launched a podcast called Mighty Municipalities. They talk with small towns and municipalities across the country about how to be more impactful for their citizens. Recent episodes have covered everything from using AI safely in local government, to beating the heat in small communities, to battling food insecurity in a small South Carolina town.

It's a niche topic, but the themes are universal – showing up for your community, solving real problems with limited resources, doing more with less.
